The concept of forming a club in the East Texas area began to take shape in October, 1989 at a car exhibition in Tyler at the French Quarter shipping center. Six Model A Ford's were at the show. Dr. Donald Haygood placed a sign in front of his Slant Windshield Sedan inviting individuals to sign up if they were interested in forming a club. Approximately eight names were obtained.
During the the following three months Dr. Haygood mailed letters and questionaires to these individuals. More names were given to Dr. Haygood on the returned questionaires of other Model A owners in the East Texas area. Additional questionaires were sent to the referred individuals. Finally on February 18, 1990, a rainy Sunday afternoon, thirteen individuals met at the home of Dr. Haygood and agreed to form a club. The name of the club was selected and officers were elected.

An official CHARTER was granted to the TYLER MODEL A FORD CLUB on March 17, 1990, by the National Board of Directors of the Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA). The first official meeting of the club was held at the home of Dr. Haygood on April 1, 1990, with 33 persons present.
